LSAT Reading Comprehension Error Log Strategy

By Daniel · 2026-08-27 · 10 min read

An LSAT Reading Comprehension error log is not a list of wrong answers. It is a record of the decision you made before choosing the wrong answer.

Record the passage function

For each passage, write one line per paragraph:

  • introduces the debate
  • presents one theory
  • qualifies the claim
  • introduces contrary evidence
  • gives the author’s final position

This forces you to read for structure instead of detail.

Track the author’s actual position

Many wrong answers misstate qualification. An author can admire a method and still reject its central assumption. Track:

  • positive evaluations
  • concessions
  • contrasts
  • final limitations

The author’s attitude is usually nuanced. If your summary is absolute, reread the transition language.

Label each miss

Use a small set of labels:

  • Map: missed paragraph function
  • Scope: answer was too broad or narrow
  • Detail: missed a local qualification
  • Inference: answer was plausible but unsupported
  • Perspective: attributed a claim to the wrong speaker
  • Timing: moved too quickly or ran out of room
  • Trap: fell for attractive opposite language

After five passages, the repeated label becomes your drill focus.

Rebuild wrong answers

For every wrong answer, record:

  • why it sounded right
  • which phrase made it attractive
  • why the passage does not support it
  • why the credited answer is supported

This is the part that actually improves accuracy.

Use a passage map that leaves room for speed

A map should be short. Do not copy facts. Record only:

  • paragraph role
  • author attitude
  • major transition
  • where key examples appear

You can return to details. You cannot return to time.

Weekly review rhythm

  • Four new passages
  • Two older passages repeated
  • One timed section
  • One review session dedicated only to error labels

The goal is fewer repeated decisions, not more pages read.
